I think “sales” is probably the best option here because trading is now quite quantitative and less of the “frat boy” atmosphere that it used to be. Banking is usually for more reserved/docile people until you reach the top levels. If you want to be social and outgoing at work, look at institutional sales roles.

As an outgoing and social person, enjoy being with fun and chill people, will S?T just be the better fit for me? Or IB can still be an option despite most work will keep the nose to the grindstone as you mentioned?
I’m currently working on a trading role but always wonder working in projects and deals might be more interesting with less routine stuff.

The FRM does not help at all for trading, as it’s related to risk management, not risk-taking / P&L-generating roles. Also, MBA programs in general do not help much for S&T roles. I can’t say much more without knowing at least some of your background information.

That’s too broad of a question to answer… growth industries anywhere? Or just in finance and related areas? We created a forecast earlier this year to address more and less promising areas in finance: https://mergersandinquisitions.com/

A Math Minor isn’t necessary, but if you can keep it while maintaining a good GPA, I would do so. I don’t think Economics helps at all for PE/VC. Maybe one class but nothing more. Maybe it could help for certain global macro hedge funds, but even there, probably ~90% of hedge fund professionals would value a background in Math more highly.

Hey Brian, turns out I won’t be pursuing the trading route and I want to go the IB route (eventually PE/VC, then HF). With this route, is a math minor necessary. Also, I was wondering if an economics major makes a lot of sense for these roles. If I work at a global macro fund, I figured an economics degree would make sense, but I am having second thoughts. Should I just major in finance and minor in math (I may throw in a philosophy minor to diversify and because I enjoy it.) Thoughts?
