I’d use slides. Yes you can use the lingo if everyone understands but I may refrain from doing so unless you are sure you can establish rapport. You can leverage better if you have another offer on hand. Otherwise, you haven’t proven yourself enough to leverage, UNLESS you have done your industry research and find out that your firm is paying less than average.

1.I’m an intern at a prestigious Nigerian firm. I have a presentation to make before the MOST SENIOR bankers including the MD. Its in 12days and I have basically have to review documents (over 1000pages) and explore other means; media and general research to possibly originate IB business for FY2015 + my daily duties. I view it as an opportunity to impress. Do I make slides or an msdoc? I’m very good orator so I’ve been told; but I don’t wanna rely on that alone. Do I have to use the lingo I hear them use around the office? I stress the MD’s presence because I may not get this opportunity again.

2. I’ve been offered another internship to begin after my current gig is over. The banker told me my salary but HINTED that it could be negotiable. How do I negotiate to get more pay? What do I leverage. How do I approach the meeting; mentality, body language etc.

It depends on what type of work experience you’ve had. If you’ve had market experience S&T maybe useful. Otherwise if you have valuation experience IBD maybe a better bet

I am a rising senior (at a semi-target school) interning for a BB in the back office. My company has an intern mobility program wherein I can apply to work for one different group. While I know my odds are slim, I’d really like to transfer into IB or S&T. I have a strong resume, I’ve done good work in the BO (and at previous internships), and I think I would be a good fit in either group.

Here’s my question: which do you think I would have a better shot at? Given that I can pitch my resume for both positions, I would assume that I’ll have a better shot at IB (where there are likely more opportunities).

This referral could potentially help you, but I don’t think it can guarantee you a spot unless he’s the founder of the company who has all the say in recruiting.
