Yes, but typically on desks like exotics that require more advanced math.

Switching from S&T to IB following an S&T internship tends to be quite difficult because most full-time offers go to IB interns, and everyone else is also attempting to switch groups at the same time (right as/after internships end). It is possible, but your chances are higher if you accept a FT offer, work there, and then transfer after a year or so. The S&T internship itself is positive, but it helps less for full-time IB roles than something directly related to deal experience.

I’m beginning a STIR Trading internship at one of the big 5 (Canada) but am keen on breaking into IB. Would BBs in NYC view my s&t internship as a plus – or in other words – can I get into IB with an s&t internship? I have one more year of uni. I want to move to a BB in NYC.

Thanks !

Yes, S&T is better in that case.

I’m a current high school student interested in IB and S&T (but leaning more towards the S&T side). Yes I have read the articles you’ve posted about majors; I’m not asking about what major to pursue (most likely math and a finance major). I do have a passion for the markets (not just stocks but also distressed debt) before the 2020 when everyone and their mother got into stocks

Obviously my stutter will affect me in any field but I’m wondering if S&T is better for someone who is passionate about the markets but isn’t very orally articulate. I can still say small sentences with sharp vocab but I’m a bit nervous if I won’t seem polish enough.
