Potentially, but the IB recruiting environment is quite different in India (https://mergersandinquisitions.com/investment-banking-india/) and it tends to be extremely difficult to get in if you’re not at one of the top IIMs because the industry is quite small relative to the population. You pretty much need an MBA from one of the top 2 IIMs to have a good shot at getting in. The CFA won’t help much in that market.

I am a recently qualified Chartered Account from India. I am getting Financial Due Diligence at Deloitte, but it’s an offshore business.
Would it be helpful for making a career in IB?
Also, amongst MBA and CFA what should I consider to build up my skills and for getting a good job

Financial modelling is not a prerequisite for the job. During the course of your work you may need to review the assumptions made by the bankers in their models but you won’t need to build one from scratch.

Excel and PowerPoint and basics.
Analyzing financial statements to uncover drivers for revenues and expenses, trends and concentration in customers etc.

Please refer to the other links mentioned for the work and skills.

Have colleagues working here from other boutique IB’s in India and some of them are even from Bulge Bracket IB/Research, including me. Would love to talk more about the experiences, if it helps

It doesn’t really matter as long as you have 1-2 good deals to point to. So if you don’t have that experience yet, get it first before you begin a full-fledged networking effort.

Brian,
I’ve started my networking to move into IB/PE but worried that it might be considered too soon (in the interviewer’s perspective) if I start interviewing with less than 12 months of experience under my belt. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I would try to move into IB as soon as possible, ideally at around the 1-year mark. Certifications won’t help much for getting into PE. So focus on IB roles, consider regions outside Korea because I don’t think there are that many roles there, and then spend about a year on the job before moving into PE.
