I would read this article again and replicate the exact approach the reader here used. You don’t have much of a shot if you don’t have any previous experience that’s relevant – you need to get something first, like the finance role at the med-tech startup this person won.

So, it depends on what you’re willing to do to get that experience. If you can do that first, then yes, you could potentially win off-cycle roles or internships and then move into IB from there.

I would really appreciate your advice on whether IBD is a realistic career path for me. I graduated with an MBBS in Medicine and BSc in Management (intercalated) from a top london university. I do not wish to pursue a career in medicine but I really am interested in a career in IBD. The problem is that I have very little financial background and absolutely no internships in IBD or anything remotely finance based. Neither have I done much networking as I came into this decision at a very awkward time with relation to the recruitment process.

If I want to go into IBD whats my best approach? Do I apply for full time analyst positions anyway? Or do I only apply for internships?What about off cycle placement analyst positions such as those in Citi bank? I realise most deadlines are approaching and most have already applied ages ago but do I still have a shot? Or shall I just move on and look for a different career?

Any advice is appreciated, btw I hope to do all this in the UK not the USA.
